Eric Hill

I am Queer.

I aim to express how I feel the queer community is viewed by society at large. Queer folx are historically seen as spectacles: faceless, shadowed, unnamed, and desaturated, meant only to be gawked at, observed as strange, grotesque, and mysterious creatures who are consistently othered.

Time and again, Queer folx dim their light to keep themselves safe. They shrink to fit into societal norms, leaving them with a warped sense of support. They mute their colors in the hope of finding acceptance. The rage, fear and pain they feel is a shared experience.

These are the moments that I choose to capture; a snapshot of beautiful, isolated, radiant souls. No matter how much Queer folx suppress, hide, wall up, and disappear, their light will always shine through.

Queer light it is brilliant, and I have been given the remarkable privilege to experience and document Queer folx as they truly are.
